Running metrics from your AirPods and iPhone
Tuck an AirPod under your laces and Kinapod turns it into a running footpod. Indoors, your iPhone displays pace, power, cadence and treadmill incline in real time. Outdoors, GPS adds your route and distance.
Hardware-less tech on par with footpods and watches that cost hundreds of dollars. Running is in the Kinapod app now, free for now. Works with AirPods Pro (2019 or newer) and standard AirPods (3rd generation or newer). Built by ML researchers, patent pending.

Fast setup
Tuck an AirPod under your laces, prop your iPhone on the treadmill, and start running.
Gear you already own
No footpod, no watch, no chest strap. Your AirPods are the footpod and your iPhone is the display.
Real time metrics
AirPod motion drives pace, cadence, GCT, vertical oscillation, L/R balance, and power. iPhone sensors measure treadmill incline.
Introduction
Kinapod uses the AirPods you already own as a running footpod. Securely tuck an AirPod under the laces on your shoe and prop your iPhone on the treadmill console. The app streams pace, distance, power, cadence, ground contact time, vertical oscillation, L/R balance, and treadmill incline in real time, on par with footpods and watches that cost hundreds of dollars. Outdoor runs add a GPS route map alongside the same footpod metrics. Optionally connect Apple Health for heart rate or export workouts to Strava.
Indoor and outdoor running are separate sports in the app: pick the one you are doing and the right metrics follow, treadmill incline indoors, route and GPS distance outdoors.
How to Use
- Initial setup
- Install Kinapod from the App Store. Grant motion and Health permissions if you want heart rate or Apple Health sync.
- Securely tuck an AirPod under the laces on your shoe.
- Prop your iPhone on the treadmill console where you can see the display.
- Start a workout
- Open Kinapod, pick Indoor Run or Outdoor Run, tap Start, then begin running.
- Kinapod logs pace, cadence, ground contact time, vertical oscillation, L/R balance, power, and treadmill incline in real time. Outdoor runs record the route too.
- Finish and calibrate
- Tap Stop when you finish. If the treadmill shows a different distance, enter that value to calibrate the session.
- Optionally export to Apple Health or Strava.
- Tips for best accuracy
- Keep the AirPod firmly tucked under the laces for the whole run.
- Keep the iPhone steady on the treadmill console.
- Use a short calibration during the first few sessions.
