A straight stroke, measured from an AirPod on your cue
Strap an AirPod to the butt of the cue and shoot. The app measures how level the cue stays, tilt at the moment of contact, straightness of the stroke, backswing length and cue speed, and folds every shot into one consistency score.
Cue sports are coming to the Kinapod app, free for now. Works with AirPods Pro (2019 or newer) and standard AirPods (3rd generation or newer).
A straight stroke
How level the cue stays, how straight it travels, and the tilt at the moment of contact. A straight line, not a banana.
Backswing and speed
How far back you draw the cue and how fast it moves through the shot.
Consistency score
One number per shot, so strokes can be compared. It is all about consistency.
Introduction
A good stroke is a straight line: the cue stays level, travels straight, and does not tilt when it meets the ball. Kinapod puts a motion sensor on the cue itself, an AirPod strapped to the butt of the cue you already play with. Cue speeds are low, comfortably within what the sensor measures precisely.
What it measures
- Cue level through the stroke and tilt at contact.
- Straightness of the cue's path.
- Backswing length and cue speed through the shot.
- Consistency score, one number per shot to compare strokes.
- 3D replay, a line of the cue tip you can rotate and inspect.
Kinapod is a practice and training aid. Metrics are estimates derived from motion sensors and are not a certified measurement instrument.
How to use
- Strap one AirPod to the butt of the cue with a rubber band. A printable mount (STL file) is planned.
- Keep the second AirPod out of its case, near the phone.
- Pick Cue Sports and play. Every stroke is detected and scored automatically.
